TIMESMALAYSIA, JAKARTA – Children's speaking ability is one aspect that is often noticed by their parents. Generally, the growth and development of a normal child will be able to speak at 1.5 years old by mastering at least 5 consistent vocabularies. If the child has a late talking ability, as a parent, it's better to be more responsive and take the right steps.

Reporting from Hello Healthy, here are the tips you should do or pay special attention if your child is having late talking.

1. Consult with a doctor or psychologist

Try to find other opinions from experts or other parents to strengthen the doctor's statement and enrich information about the actual condition of the child.

2. Limit the use of gadgets

Don't let the child look at the digital screen too long. This habit will have an adverse effect on children's development. When your child is too long at the device screen or television, your child will feel comfortable with images that are always moving and full of color. As a result, children tend to be passive, less sensitive and less focused when they are interacting with their environment.

3. Invite the children to interact with their friends

Take time to invite children to interact with their peers. This will stimulate children to learn how to talk, because playing with other children requires verbal communication skills.

4. Invite children to actively communicate

The toddler (1-3 years) is a period of imitation, so that when a parent invites the child to speak intensely, surely the child's vocabulary will increase too.

5. Teach children with clear words

Teach words to children with clear words (intonation, mouth / lip shape when saying it) because they will imitate it. Example: the indonesian word mudah not cudah, minum not num, susu not cucu.

These are some of the things you can do to improve your child's speech skills. If the child has a late talk, parents do not need to much worry. Try various stimulations to stimulate your child's speech skills. (*)
