TIMESMALAYSIA, MALANG – Faculty of Humanities of UIN Malang held an international conference on Language, Literature and Media “AICoLLiM” on Monday (5/11/2018). This event was the meeting place for the lecturers, researchers, enthusiasts, and the observer of Language, Literature and Media.

Besides, AICoLLiM was the closing event of the international conference held in UIN Malang throughout 2018.

In this odd semester, UIN Malang had held some international conferences, such as Technology Conference in the Faculty of Science and Technology, Islamic and Technology Conference from LP2M UIN Malang, International Conference of Law and Social Sciences in the Faculty of Sharia, and Islamic Education Conference in the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training.

Since 2009, the Faculty of Humanities has been holding several international conferences. However, these events were only for English Letters study program and Arabic Language and Literature study program.

This AICoLLiM Conference was designed for all the study programs in the Faculty of Humanities.

“Initially, we thought that if each study program holds its own conference, it will not be efficient. Now, it has been proven to be more effective when the faculty holds the conference. It turns out that there are more participants submitting their papers. This year, the productivity of the lecturers and the students is increasing significantly,” explained the head of the committee, Dr. Rohmani Nur Indah, M. Pd.

Through this international conference, the faculty expected that the lecturers and the students could be more productive in submitting papers and conducting researches. This kind of media also enables the publication of papers. There were 52 research papers that had passed the selection presented by the participants.

“The selection is strict. The reviewers come from various countries, such as Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Netherlands, and British. However, there were 36 papers from the Faculty of Humanities that are accepted,” explained Indah.

All the results of the research will be submitted to the international publication and indexed by Scopus. Therefore, the papers written by the researchers in the Faculty of Humanities could be accepted in international level.

The four main presenters in this conference were Prof. Dr. H. Mudjia Rahardjo, M.Si (Professor on Sociolinguistics Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang), Charlotte Blackburn (English Empowerment Specialist, United States of America), Ooi Choon Meng, M.Ed (Lecturer & Trainer Institute of Teacher Education, International Languages Campus, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), and Duktur Faris Badr (Senior Lecturer, Researcher on Literature, Yemen Arab Republic).

The faculty hoped that next year this conference could be continued with the other international conferences. The main target is to submit and publish more papers from UIN Malang, especially the Faculty of Humanities.

“The international conference held by the Faculty of Humanities of UIN Malang is the place for learning, not only for the lecturers but also the students. This event could motivate them to be actively involved in the international academic level,” said Indah. (*)
